3 strange things about twitter

Well, nothing strange about twitter at all – just a couple of things that happened within a day or so of each other – all twitter related.
The other day I went to the dentist and he proudly said “I am on twitter, look” and he turned the screen of his laptop around to show me his timeline.
The unfortunate thing was that he was tweeting and retweeting things which had nothing to do with dentistry.
“321 ways to keep your gums healthier?” – No, he was rewteeting things like population growth in Mexico City and what’s on TV tonight.
I am pretty sure that BBC & CNN would be very happy at increased exposure – but it wasn’t doing anything for his dental practice.
Of course, after a quick chat, he is rethinking his strategy and I won’t, therefore, share his twitter ID with you.
So he had got it and he hadn’t…
The next thing was that top high level internet marketing guru John Reese went on twitter hiatus (look it up…) and only recently came back.
Obviously (well not obvious because I don’t know the reason why..) he was rethinking his twitter strategy. I have added a screen shot of John Reese’s twitter account below.
High level gurus taking a twitter holiday ? People that live online going offline for over 6 weeks?

And the third thing was that in a recent presentation to Chinese students, President Obama seemed to go out of his way to mention twitter when talking about unrestricted use of the internet. Maybe twitter will become the “biro” or the “vacuum” of online instant messaging ? Where one particular brand name becomes the generic name.
So, depending on where you are, twitter is either a new toy which is very good(but you don’t actually know how to use yet), something that is a tool to be used for your business or something else that the west is going to export to China (as well as Starbucks, McDonalds).
What’s all this got to do with training?
Well, as with any technology, it is important to remember that everyone is at a different level of understanding and what someone else is happy with maybe revolutionary to someone else.
