Why our office is bursting at the seams and how you can help
Our office is so full of books that pretty soon we will need our own risk assessment template.
We are continually adding items for sale on Amazon and Greenmetropolis
All items are in very good condition, from a smoke/pet free environment. Where the book has an original CD - this is present but usually has been opened.
Quite a few more yesterday but these don’t seem to be showing - Please check back regularly to pick up a bargain.

Sharp End Training attended the exhibition as visitors yesterday and attended an interesting presentation about “elearning progress & prospects” by CIPD sage Martyn Sloman
Martyn made a number of interesting points (the slides aren’t up on the website at the time of writing)
Training & Learning must be governed by the learner and the organisation’s business needs - NOT the interests of software companies.
The debate about learning styles is something of a red-herring. If people are motivated enough - they will learn something. He gave the example of a previous employment of his - Ernst & Young.
The story went that if the word went out on Friday afternoon that by Monday, the team should be proficient at synchronised swimming. Then, by Monday, the team would be the best synchronised swimmers ever - the reason? because they were motivated to learn - by any means neccesary.
Interestingly, in response to questions at the end - he said he had come across no useful evidence of wiki’s being used as a successful learning tool.
Very interesting presentation & overview Martyn, thanks.

It seemed like a good idea to duplicate the training/support videos posted on this site onto youtube
We have also added some funky music because that seems like the done thing.

The Rugby Union World cup started last weekend and the 20/20 cricket world cup starts in a couple of days.
Both these events include England and Scotland, with Wales & Ireland in the rugby.
With staff likely to want to watch key matches, it is worth revisiting our post about last years football world cup.

We have just been to a branch of a large financial institution to carry out some business.
The first thing that slightly alarmed us was personal callers to the enquiry desk being put through on the phone to a “back office”. This was odd because there were quite a lot of staff who seemed to be “walking about”
We had rather a long time to think about this because there was quite a long queue for the counter.
As it turns out, the reason for this delay was that the cashiers were asking every customer a sales question and getting into a discussion.
“Do you have a mortgage ?”
“Have you made a will ?”
All designed to engage the customer - nothing wrong with that but at the expense of other customers ?
Training is like this - to be successful, training managers must focus on what matters and training needs must be just that - not training
-
wants
